Caterham Academy 2011 Race 2 – Rockingham

Race 2 – Rockingham (International Super Sports Car Circuit)

This second of the four Caterham Academy races takes place at Rockingham Motordrome on 16th and 17th July 2011 on the “International Super Sports Car” circuit. Having driven this circuit half a dozen times now, this is a super fast but heavy breaking circuit that can have your breaks locking up at times. Located near Corby in Northamptonshire, Rockingham is Europe’s fastest banked oval racing circuit, with the unbeaten lap record for the 1.5 mile oval set at 24.719 seconds by Tony Kanaan in his Ford/Lola Champ Car on 22nd September, 2001 – an average speed of 215.397mph!

As I type, I am told there will be a test day the Friday before and so we will be staying local for two nights. If you fancy coming I can recommend the Hampton Inn, which is only five minutes from the circuit and has a Whetherspoon next door plus nightclub if anyone is interested. Otherwise choose your own hotel using the circuit’s NN17 5AF postcode.

Similar to the Brands Hatch race, this is a “BRSCC Clubmans Race Weekend” and this two day BRSCC Midland Centre meeting will be run on the ISCC circuit and will feature

  • Caterham Academy Championship
  • Ford XR Challenge
  • Competition Car Insurance/Dunlop Ford Fiesta Championship
  • Fiesta Junior Championship
  • BRSCC Porsche Championship
  • Pickup Truck Championship
  • Porsche Club Championship
  • Porsche GT3

Again I will have tickets but if you fancy coming, please let me know by Friday 25th July.

If you cannot make the date, you will be able to view all race results from the TSL Timing website by selecting the BRSCC section on the navigation bar. Of course, no data will show for any of the events until after the finish. As I type I am not sure, but if you cannot attend on the day, you are able to view live data on the day. Here are the events I am taking part:

  • Brands Hatch (11th and 12th June)
  • Rockingham (16th and 17th July)
  • Donnington Park (6th and 7th August)
  • Mallory Park (18th September)
