A BBC News article from May 2015 was shared on my Social Media feed this morning, stating that a silver bar was found by US explorer, Barry Clifford. The article suggests Barry presented the silver bar to Madagascar’s president Hery Rajaonarimampianina at a special ceremony. However, Barry must be a little embarrassed!

As with anything shipwreck in the topic, my default resource is shipwreck website http://wrecksite.eu. No different here to reseach Kidd’s sailing ship Adventure Galley and to read in bold red lettering that this is #FakeNews.

Later that year in July, the bar was found to be lead. A UNESCO scientific and technical advisory body revealed that the ingot actally consisted of 95% lead and speculated that the wreck in question might be a broken part of the Sainte-Marie port constructions, where Clifford was supposedly crawling around in muddied watet with a metal detector.

A lengthy Wikipedia article aboud Kidd suggests all metal (including hinges) was placed aboard Adventure Prize before Kidd returned to the Caribbean.
Alas, perhaps a romantic news story as many have shared the article with positive likes and ‘wow’ comments on social media. However we now know the BBCs arricle could be false and should be updated?
